50 dollar challenge

A COUPLE YEARS AGO I DESIGNED THIS CHAIR FOR A SUPERFRONT COMPETITION. WITH ONLY $50 TO SPEND, I DECIDED TO USE THE SHEET MATERIAL HOMASOTE - A FIBER WALL BOARD USED IN CONSTRUCTION AND MADE FROM RECYCLED PAPER. THREADED TOGETHER WITH ROD AND COPPER PIPE - CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

Menu Design

MENU DESIGN IS AN INSPIRING COLLABORATION OF DESIGNERS. THEIR MANIFEST VERY MUCH SPEAKS TO ME. I JUST WISH I WROTE THESE WORDS:

"THINK SIMPLICITY, HUMANIZED FUNCTION AND LOW COST PRODUCTION. CLEAN LINES AND EMPHASIS ON CRAFTSMANSHIP AND PRACTICALITY. A PALETTE OF NATURAL TONES AND WARM HUES. MODERN, UNDERSTATED AND CRAFTED CRISP MINIMALISM... WE BELIEVE IN MAKING DESIGN MATTER."

THEIR PRODUCT SHOTS ARE ALSO VERY BEAUTIFUL.

CONCRETE _ THREE ARCHITECTS

HERE ARE THREE BUILDINGS THAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED PERSONALLY AND HAVE INSPIRED ME THROUGH THEIR USE OF CONCRETE.

THERE ARE SO MANY REASONS WHY I LOVE CONCRETE. WHERE TO BEGIN... THE WAY IT PICKS UP LIGHT, THE WAY IT WEATHERS, THE POSSIBILITIES OF FORM, STRUCTURE AND SPAN, THE TEXTURE, THE FEEL... YET SO UNFORGIVING.

Team _ Red Dirt Rd House

I'M THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE RED DIRT RD HOUSE IN EAST HAMPTON, NY IS COMPLETE! I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE SPECIAL MENTION OF THE TEAM THAT MADE THE PROJECT WHAT IT IS. I BELIEVE WHAT MAKES A SUCCESSFUL PROJECT IS THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE CLIENT, CONTRACTOR AND ARCHITECT. THE CLIENT IS A FELLOW AUSSIE BASED IN NYC, HEATHER WHO STARTED 'EAT REAL FOOD NYC' AND CAME TO ME WITH THE VISION TO MAKE THIS HOUSE A YOGA/HEALTH RETREAT. CHARLES GALLANTI AND HIS SITE MANAGER, DAVE, EXECUTED THE DESIGN BEAUTIFULLY.

PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE HOUSE COMING SOON!

Conceptual _ Print Museum

SIFTING THROUGH MY ARCHIVES, I WENT DOWN MEMORY LANE TO MY UNIVERSITY DAYS. MANY SLEEPLESS NIGHTS AND BLISTERED HANDS, TO SAY THE LEAST, RESULTED IN THE DESIGN OF THIS PRINT MUSEUM. THE FINAL PLANS WERE SCREEN PRINTS, JUST BECAUSE WE COULD DO THOSE SORT OF THINGS BACK THEN. OH, THE DAYS OF NOT LIVING IN REALITY. I MUST SAY THOUGH, I PREFER REALITY AND SEEING PROJECTS COME TO LIFE.

The City & The Sea

I am an amalgamation of The City & The Sea. The vertical and the horizontal. The concrete and the fluid. Looking back, it was the vastness of the ocean and the coastal living that allowed me to dwell and consider. Now, this vertical and ever moving force of the city brings to life those inner desires that have laid dormant. Scattered thoughts and recollections find a commonplace in space and time. Deep within, I feel the need to express this intimate immensity in a tangible way. Part the result of the way I live, but mostly the way I desire to live - forever growing and forever moving forward with a hope to truly live this life.
